Song lyrics about today
Posted by admin on January 5th, 2010 filed in GeneralIt finally happened. Beren has become a Dora the Explorer fan. Parents of young kids know that Dora sings about everything, every time they do something. They are pretty much the same songs. These songs get in your head, even though you don’t realize that you know the tune or the words. Here’s my song about today, just like Dora would sing it. Picture me swinging my arms back and forth like Dora and Boots do in their dance.
We did it! We did it!
Got a job at Target and pissed in a cup!
A drug test! We did it! We did it!
Braved snowy roads and didn’t get hit by a truck!
We did it! We did it! Hooray!
Beren got germs at Chik-Fil-A!
A fever! We did it! We did it!
Endured disappointment at Borders!
We did it! We did it! We did it! Hooray!
Something about a backpack and map!
WE DID IT! YAY!

That song is burned into my brain. I saw my first Dora just last week and I know of this swinging arm walk of which you speak. And I totally imagined you and Beren doing it too! Isn’t there a small blue monkey or something trailing along behind you guys as well?

Yeaaaahhhh, about the monkey…
We discovered that our whole family has an allergy to talking/singing animal sidekicks. So we went for a ride on Pinto the Pony with Boots the Monkey following behind. We led him through Rattlesnake Rocks, which are, of course, named for the abundant rattlesnake population there. Often saying certain words in english and spanish will stop things from happening in Dora’s world. Seeing the danger, Boots was all like, “Say ‘Cuidado!’ Say ‘Cuidado!’” And we rode ahead and were all like, “Say ‘Feliz Complianos’? What good will that do?” Then he was like, “‘Cuidado!’ Say it with me!” We shrugged our shoulders like we didn’t understand and were like, “‘Salsa’?” Boots said, “Say ‘Cuidado!’ Ayude me! Ayude me!” We said, “‘Swiper, no swiping’? Silly monkey, Swiper the Fox lives over on Blueberry Hill.” Boots didn’t answer. Then the screen faded to black with one of those sad “Waa waa waaaaaaa” noises.
Soooo, nope, we don’t have a monkey, don’t know what you’re talking about, sorry.

Geez, sorry about that. I don’t know what’s wrong with me. If a kids’ show is too innocent, I get bored and can’t help but imagine really awful things happening to the characters. Dora and Boots aren’t even that annoying. It’s a really good show.
