Dawn Patrol

Here are a few Dawn Patrol photos from the hot air balloon festival. The DP goes up before it’s light, as a sort of trial run. The other pilots use the DP to learn about temperature and wind conditions before they launch later in the morning during the mass ascension. The non-DP balloons set up while the sun is coming up so they are ready to go up at the same time.

Like a light bulb in the sky!

Here are a couple shots of the festival with the mountain behind it.

We got close to watch them set this balloon up.

Look! I actually got a lens flare!

Very cool. Beats the hell out of the show of balloons that they have at the event in Morgantown every year.

I’d nearly forgotten what natural lens flare looks like after Photoshop.

Yeah, I’ve been in town for that festival twice and I’ve seen exactly 0 balloons. The Albuquerque festival was incredible.

Wow! Those are gorgeous! I’ll bet it sounded great too. I love the noise they make.
