Is it possible that movies have led me astray?

There are some things about the universe that are as close to certain as it is possible to get. The sun will rise in the morning. Taxes are due tomorrow. When two men carry a huge sheet of glass between them, someone will crash through it or it will otherwise be broken in some (possibly comical) manner. Right? RIGHT?! Well. Not this time. There was a glass cubical at work and it was removed last week. They took the giant plates of glass down carefully and NOT ONE OF THEM BROKE. Each was safely carried out of the building without a single good guys vs. bad guys chase barreling into it. When they took it across the street, no one drove/rode any sort of vehicle into it, thinking that the clear glass was actually barrier-free open road. Never did we get to hear the tell-tale tinkling of a million little pieces of glass hitting the ground after the impact we all anticipated.

I don’t get it. Movies have indicated that the glass should have broken. Would movies lie about something like that? The image of the men carrying the glass and then it breaking when someone hits it is so ubiquitous in our culture, thanks to movies. How could this scene not have come true? Do you understand how disappointed I am?!

As if that wasn’t enough, I now have further doubt about the accuracy of movies. I discovered that my mother did not receive a lei from attractive native hula dancers upon her arrival at the airport in Hawaii Saturday. That doesn’t seem right to me. I’m pretty sure that was supposed to happen. Thanks a lot movies, for giving me all these misconceptions!

If these things aren’t true, what else should we question?

The lei part should have happened, unless the tourism dept had a budget cut. I have pictures with them from the 80s.

I’ll have to get the details on why the leis didn’t happen. Maybe when they go to the airport to leave they can pretend they just arrived and trick the lei distributors into giving them some.
