On the way home today, Beren was talking about something bad that could happen and he finished by saying, “That would be chaos!” I asked him if he knows what “chaos” means. He said yes, and gave a fairly good definition, though I can’t remember his exact words. He went on to explain that it would be where everything is mixed up and no one has to follow the rules, like trucks flying through the air and cars could drive under ground. Trees would grow straight out the side of cliffs, and traffic lights would be blue. Then Maggie, who has started saying “duh” because she heard it at school, said, “Duh, Beren. Chaos is discord.” Then Beren said, “You know, Maggie, Eris is the goddess of discord.” Then they both got distracted because they could see Beren’s school from their seats. I did not make up any of that. Hearing little people learn about language and abstract concepts is amazing, even when it does involve the word “duh” and maybe getting some of your information from My Little Pony.
