Things to do
Things to do before I die, in no particular order:
Learn ASL.
Ride on a motorcycle. I don’t even have to drive it. I’d settle for being a passenger. Did you ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance? It’ll make you want to ride a bike too. It made me want to be the sort of person who works on her own bike, instead of taking it to a mechanic.
Write a fiction book. Or, in the spirit of thinking big, many of them.
Finish my pregnancy memoir. Done with 270 pages and counting…
Go to the fall hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque with Jody.
Wear a skimpy outfit at Pennsic.
Swim with the bioluminescent plankton in one of Puerto Rico’s biobays.
See the Coral Castle in Homestead, Fl.
Read The Lathe of Heaven (this one’s for Chris!).
Become a doula and/or midwife. I think I’ll save this one for when I’m much older. I don’t think a younger woman would get as much respect in the field. Also, the job takes a caring person, but also one who won’t get emotional about it. I think I need a few more decades before I would be able to do anything but point and go, “Look! The miracle of birth!” and then bawl uselessly about it.
Make a wedding cake.
Visit the Hemingway House and see all those cats with extra toes.
Visit Blackwater Falls and Spruce Knob. I’ve had dealings with WV for almost 10 years now and I’ve still never been to these landmarks.
Go back to school for my MLIS.
Paint a mural in my kids’ bedrooms.
Own a house.
Take that stained glass class.
Run an Etsy shop.
Own a jacuzzi.
Try bubble tea.
Hike the Baker Trail.
Learn to play the guitar.
Set up a writing grant for educated stay at home moms of one or more children under the age of 5. The idea would be that the lucky winner would get enough money to pay for some childcare each week for a year and have enough time to get a book written.
Practice amateur lomography.
Fall photography expedition to Falling Water.
Learn to drive a standard.
Get a corset for Pennsic. Hubby says I’m getting one for Taxmas 2010! Yay! I think I’ll go with an underbust corset for my first one, since I’ll still be nursing and boob smashy hurts.
Motor west and get my kicks on Route 66.
Visit the House on the Rock in Wisconsin.
Attend the Washington State International Kite Festival.
