Things to do

Things to do before I die, in no particular order:

Meet Neil Gaiman. Update: Met him at Carnegie Music Hall in Pittsburgh, 11/14/12.

Learn ASL.

Ride on a motorcycle.  I don’t even have to drive it.  I’d settle for being a passenger.  Did you ever read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?  It’ll make you want to ride a bike too.  It made me want to be the sort of person who works on her own bike, instead of taking it to a mechanic.

Write a fiction book.  Or, in the spirit of thinking big, many of them. UPDATE: One fiction book done! Now I’m working on more!

Finish my pregnancy memoir.  Done with 270 pages and counting…

Go to the fall hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque with Jody. UPDATE: We attended in October 2011 and had a great time!

Wear a skimpy outfit at Pennsic.

Swim with the bioluminescent plankton in one of Puerto Rico’s biobays.

See the Coral Castle in Homestead, Fl.

Read The Lathe of Heaven (this one’s for Chris!).

Become a doula and/or midwife.  I think I’ll save this one for when I’m much older.  I don’t think  a younger woman would get as much respect in the field.  Also, the job takes a caring person, but also one who won’t get emotional about it.  I think I need a few more decades before I would be able to do anything but point and go, “Look!  The miracle of birth!” and then bawl uselessly about it.

Make a wedding cake.

Visit the Hemingway House and see all those cats with extra toes.

Visit Blackwater Falls and Spruce Knob.  I’ve had dealings with WV for almost 10 years now and I’ve still never been to these landmarks.

Go back to school for my MLIS.

Paint a mural in my kids’ bedrooms.

Own a house.

Take that stained glass class.

Run an Etsy shop.

Own a jacuzzi.

Try bubble tea. UPDATE: Tried the tea, 6/2/11. Delicious!

Hike the Baker Trail.

Learn to play the guitar.

Set up a writing grant for educated stay at home moms of one or more children under the age of 5.  The idea would be that the lucky winner would get enough money to pay for some childcare each week for a year and have enough time to get a book written.

Practice amateur lomography. UPDATE: Over one year of lomography and I’m still in love with it!

Fall photography expedition to Falling Water.

Learn to drive a standard.

Get a corset for Pennsic. UPDATE: I wore my bodice to Pennsic 39 and it looked great. I hope to have more corsets in the future!

Motor west and get my kicks on Route 66.

Visit the House on the Rock in Wisconsin.

Attend the Washington State International Kite Festival.

Participate in a 5k run.

Expedition to view and photograph the Aurora Borealis.

Go to the Temple Bar in Dublin.

Attend the San Diego ComiCon.

Enter a party/concert and be able to honestly tell the doorman, “It’s okay! I’m with the band!”  UPDATE:  Accomplished this twice in one night on 10/19/12 at Howlers and BBT in Pittsburgh.  Thank you to Creatures and The Pressure!

Go tree house camping.

Watch the full mooon rise over the Mount Victoria Lookout in Wellington, New Zealand.

Go on a girls’ vacation cruise with Jody and Stacey.

Nighttime photography expedition to Oregon, like Ben Canales.

See the Wild Horses monument in Vantage, Washington.

Visit the fantastic book store Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal. Rua das Carmelitas 144, Porto

Make my mom a picture to hang on the fridge, like the kids do for me.

Break into the abandoned Six Flags New Orleans for a photography expedition.
